POP3 PERMANENT INTERNET MAILBOX
Setup for your computer using Netscape

The POP3 Permanent Internet Mailbox allows you to send and receive mail using an anonymous ID. Some users will want to continue using their original mailbox for business purposes, and use the POP3 Mailbox for personal use. If you are using both, please make sure you check your MAIL AND NEWS PREFERENCES before sending mail, to ensure you are sending your mail out under the name you wish to use for the post.

EXAMPLE: Settings for your original mailbox through your ISP are as follows. (For this example, I will use the ficticious name of brent@erols.com as my ID for business use.)

OPTIONS MENU:
     MAIL & NEWS PREFERENCES
Outgoing mail: (SMTP) server = erols.com
          Incoming mail: (POP3) server = erols.com
          POP3 User name: brent
     IDENTITY
          Your name = Brent Myers
          Your email = brent@erols.com
          Reply to address = brent@erols.com
          Organization = Myers Industries

Let's say Brent's personal mail goes out through a POP3 Permanent Internet Mailbox in the name of archie@pop3.com. (Again, this is a ficticious example.) The MAIL AND NEWS PREFERENCES must be changed under the OPTIONS MENU as follows:

OPTIONS MENU:
     MAIL & NEWS PREFERENCES
Outgoing mail: (SMTP) server = pop3.com
          Incoming mail: (POP3) server = pop3.com
          POP3 User name: archie
     IDENTITY
          Your name = Archie
          Your email = archie@pop3.com
          Reply to address = archie@pop3.com
Organization = Archie's choice (fill in the blank)

These settings will post mail as archie@pop3.com. Please make sure your settings are correct before posting mail. We recommend posting a test to alt.test newsgroup before using your POP3 mailbox if you are unfamiliar with these procedures.

Netscape will ask you for your password when retrieving mail after changing your identity, if you have a separate password for your POP3 account.
